Do actions speak louder than words?


We have been talking about that, and now it is your turn to write something about it.Think of a personal in your social network; it can be a family member, friend, colleague, and or someone else, and write a 250-word letter to him/her explaining your understanding of the saying Actions speak louder than words. Give a reason(s) why you chose this person to tell him/her that; remember to add an example to clarify your opinion.


Dear Marah
I missed you very much. I can’t forget your attitude when my daughter was sick. You made a lot. I was surprised when I received an email from one of the most famous doctor in Lebanon. You booked an appointment for my daughter to meet him after 3 days.
You picked us up in your car, driving for more than 1 hour until we arrived. We waited for a long time in the clinic. The doctor told us that my daughter’s health is good, but she has to take two medicines. After that we felt
comfortable, and we went to take some food. It was a long hard day.
 Now, I have an absolute conviction that actions speak louder than words. Sometimes you need to hear a kind words until you feel comfortable and trust towards the people, but in hard time actions will be more effective than words.
I wish you a nice time with your lovely family. They have a great role- model, their mother. I expect your kids will be as same as you :loyal, sympathetic, and lovely.

Projecting a professional image on the job

Task 1:

In order for us to come across as professionals, we need to project this mage. Click on this link for the Dos and the Don’ts. Write one sentence on each Do and Don’t you have read about.

Do dress to impress-your image matter: “Dress the way you want to be addressed,” 

Don't misrepresent yourself: you are as good as your word, so do what you say and be who you are.

Task 2:

Watch this video and write down the main idea(s), suggestions, and strategies the presenter wanted to offer.

The presenter spoke about an important ideas when you are interacting in business word .
- You have to present yourself in a professional way.
-Creat an effective introduction.
-Leaving a great lasting impression: by confidence-competence-credibility

Task 3:

Compare the reading and the video together; write down the similarities and the differences between them. Ask two of your peers on their findings and again compare them to yours.

The first presenter gave a great importance for general appearance and good behavior in creating a powerful professionl image .
The next one ignored the appearance, but stressed the importance of interpersonal skills.

Good morning everybody,

Yesterday, we talked about domestic violence and violence against women. Today, I want you to think about violence and harassment in workplace. Skim through this link and then answer the following tasks.

Task 1:
Think of a definition of violence in workplace. Does violence occur in workplace? Does it always have to be from your boss? How can you describe it? How does it happen? Why do you think it happen?
Actually violence occures in workplace, not always from boss, many times form your colleague in the same office. Negative stereotypes that may exist in the workplace is one reason of violence.In Canada there are many different cultures and nationalities that maybe have impact also.Work for a long time with a cheap salary makes the employee nervous all time 

Task 2:
List four or more things, actions, attitude, or behaviours that can be considered violence at workplace.
  • Threatening behaviour .
  • Verbal or written threats 
  • Harassment 
  • Verbal abuse 
  • Physical attacks 
Task 3:
What is/are the best action(s) in your opinion to deal with that kind of violence or harassment?
It must be a policy in the workplace for employee and management take in consideration when any harassment or violence occures.

                                            Myth or fact
The idea that cold weather causes a cold or flu is a common myth. Many people believe it, but it is not in fact true. Write a short email to a friend or a family member telling him/her other examples of common beliefs about health that have been proven to be untrue.

Dear Rania
I was so happy when I heard you are pregnant. You have an adorable girl Madnah, and I hope you will get a wonderful boy.
I remembered when I was pregnant, my mum told me that she dreamt that I born a nice girl. She was so happy because of her dream.
I realized later that she wishes me to be pregnant with a boy. It is an old myth said that if you dream that you have a girl, it mean that you will have a boy. Many myth our parents are still believe it. So please don’t care of these myths, it’s just unreal.

A: So, we’ll be seeing you at this Friday’s cocktail party?
B: Oh, I didn’t tell you. We cancelled.
A: That’s a surprise. How come?
B: We didn’t know earlier, but the Jameses are going.
A: And how’s that a problem?
B: They just seem so snobbish, always trying to keep up appearances.
A: Maybe they’re just nouveau riche and trying to adjust.
B: I don’t know. They’re too much like FOBs, and they talk funny.
A: Look who’s snobbish here.
B: Hey, whose side are you on?
A: Maybe we could reach out to them and see if we could help them become more socially integrated.
B: Whatever! We just can’t stand elitists and hypocrites!

A: Let’s wrap up the conversation at the Strachans’ annual white-tie gala ok?
B: Sorry, but we’ve decided to decline the invite.
A: You didn’t! Really?
B: We just didn’t want to have to talk to the Buchanans.
A: Seriously? What seems to be the problem?
B: They’re kind of standoffish in my book.
A: I wouldn’t be so quick to judge. It is not hard to commit a faux pas of formal etiquette in a new country.
B: I’d say so, in their case!
A: Ooh, look who’s all about high culture now?
B: Are you mocking me now?
A: Why don’t you be nice for a change?
B: Look who’s trying to be a saint!

A: You’ll be at the charity potluck this evening, won’t you?
B: I don’t think so. We turned down the invitation.
A: What? You didn’t.
B: We had no choice once we found out that the Mendezes would be there.
A: What’s your beef with them?
B: They’re all about keeping up with the Joneses.
A: Maybe they’re just trying to fit in.
B: It’s obvious they’re splurging bigtime on bling in order to impress others.
A: When did you become so cultured all of a sudden?
B: Hey, I resent that! I was just being honest.
A: People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Monday's assignment


I am Mona .I am Syrian.I left my country in 2012 because of war. We went to Lebanon, stayed there for 4 years, then we moved to Canada.
I have been here for one month .It was a hard trip, about 12 hours flying.
Everything here is differentdifferent in culture ,also in language.
I speak Arabic fluently , and I am good in English . But I have to improve my language because it is the first language in Toronto, and you must learn a survival language to communicate with others.
I am civil engineer. I have worked for about 15 years in an government company. I studied many projects about building , and I was  superviser for 3 government’s projects.
I like swimming , shopping , and watching movies.

I used to cook an Arabic food , and also make some delicious sweets. But I hate washing dishes .

Listen up to that video. A presenter talks about job hiring process, now you job is to write down a quick summary email to a friend of that video. 

  • What is the main idea the presenter is talking about?
  • It is talking about the circumstances in life, and how it is affected . 
  • Name the two groups of people that she had mentioned.

  • What are the differences between the two groups of people that the presenter referred to?

Yesterday I listened to a presenter talks about job hiring process .
She described  people inot two categories: silver spoon ,and scrappers.
The first group had advantages and destined for success, and the other had to fight against tremendous odds  to get the same success. They never lost hope.

I am absolutely sure that you will find a job, don’t loss hope.
The presenter gave examples about people suffered so much, and they had a great success like Steve jobs. His parents give him up for adoption, he never finishes collage , he has dyslexia. But he is a very successful man now.
I hope to find people who can help you to achieve your hops ,and you will reach your hops

Good morning everyone,

Hope that you have enjoyed your weekend. Now, we have a quick writing task to kick off our week.
You will have to choose between two options as follows:

Option A: For the ones who joined us on Friday’s field trip, you need to write a quick trip report elaborating on these questions:
Give a quick description on the location of the field trip;
What were the reasons that you wanted to join this trip?
What impressed you the most?
What did not impress you?
Would you go to that place again? Why?
Share at least one thing that you have learned new from that experience.

Option B: For the ones who could not make it to the field trip, write a quick apologetic email for your teacher telling her why you could not join the class; what you have done on that day; and a quick “promise” to make yourself available for the rest of the class activities.



It was the first trip with my new friends in my English class , i want to know more about everyone so i determinded to go with them.
it was a big fild , covered with green grass with small hills.I felt very cold because
it was raining , and a cold winds was blown .but i was very happy when i drove a little car through the field for about 5 min, then we tried  golfing for 3 times.
we had a lot of fun , so i hope to go that place again with my family but in a good weather to enjoy our time.
